Voters in Jackson County, Oregon took a huge step for the right to know yesterday, when they voted to ban cultivation of genetically modified crops in their county. They overcame out-of-state spending led by Monsanto and Syngenta that amounted to almost $10 for every registered voter in the county.

Dr Karen keyObviously, Monsanto and its allies wanted very much to win this one. But they failed.  Congratulations, Jackson County!

Next up: the voters in Oregon state will build on this momentum and vote on labeling of foods containing GMOs in November.
